OpenEdge 11.1 has lots of new features, including enhancements and benefits across multi-tenancy, productivity and security. But that's not all we worked on. In just about every OpenEdge release we also make some enhancements that enable higher levels of application and/or database performance. Guess what? OpenEdge 11.1 is no exception. This time we've concentrated mainly on three areas.
First, there are new options that affect the way the database storage manager manages the primary and secondary buffer caches to reduce lock contention and lessen the overhead required for managing the LRU chains. With these changes, you can see up to 40% higher throughput for read-intensive operations when there are many users.
Second, there are new options to improve network efficiency when a database server is transmitting prefetch query result sets to 4GL clients. These changes result in better network utilization and higher performance. Again, depending on the application, you can achieve significant performance gains.
Last, we have made substantial improvements to the index builder/rebuilder utility in I/O and processing efficiency. There are several new configuration options to adjust it for your environment. You may see elapsed times that are as low as one-fifth of what they were before.
