MarkLogic Solves Data Challenges at Air Force Hackathon

February 14, 2018 Data & AI, MarkLogic

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) recently hosted a “hackathon” to brainstorm, foster creativity, prototype and explore the missions of various labs in the industry.

AFRL is a scientific research organization operated by the United States Air Force Materiel Command dedicated to leading the discovery, development, and integration of affordable aerospace warfighting technologies, planning and executing the Air Force science and technology program, and providing warfighting capabilities to United States air, space, and cyberspace forces.

At the conference itself, MarkLogic was represented, among others, by Aaron Rosenbaum, Vice President, Product Strategy, who discussed industry practices focused on organizational schema management, data sharing, curation and governance.

The hackathon offered attendees a multi-day demonstration of how members of the Air Force, various public sector and industry players collaborate on computer programming to promote innovation.

The themes for this year’s event included materials data integration, curation and pedigree, as well as technology implementation concepts and additive schema challenges around right-sizing and harmonization.

One specific challenge was to extract, index, and make content searchable from unformatted multi-tab Excel files.  MarkLogic rose to the challenge by integrating tabular spreadsheets and their content with unstructured and poly-structured modeling and simulation weapons test data and exposed the content to reporting and analytics tools.

Marianne Myers and Brent Perry, Sales Engineers with the Public Sector Sales Engineering Team, demonstrate MarkLogic’s ability to ingest data, make it searchable, and share information with existing mission systems.
