We recently announced that Infian, a leading provider of Electronic Health Records (EHR) for dialysis centers and the renal industry, chose our new OpenEdge 11.2 platform, featuring OpenEdge Mobile, to help its clients save time and improve quality of care.
We sat down with Infian CIO, Mike Wheat, to learn more about their experience in the OpenEdge 11.2 early adopter program and their mobility plans. Here is what he had to say:
Progress (PRGS): Tell us more about your partnership with Progress and your application
Mike Wheat (MW): Infian has been in the healthcare business for over 30 years and we have worked with Progress Software to develop our comprehensive EHR solutions. OpenEdge has helped us update our application to keep up with industry changes, like cloud, mobility and bring your own device. Their strong partnership with Amazon Web Services also allowed us to develop a highly scalable and secure platform and deliver applications on a consumption basis versus traditional licensing models.
Our team must have evaluated 10 different platforms, including GWT [Google Web Toolkit] and still nothing quite fit our needs for low coding requirements. Progress changed the game for us with OpenEdge so we could write one and run on just about any device.
PRGS: How has OpenEdge helped you address security concerns of EHRs?
MW: In our industry, there are many concerns and requirements for data security and privacy. Because we had been been working with Progress for quite some time, our prior experience and code projects with OpenEdge let us sail through some important data security certifications, like CCHIT (Certification Commission for Health Information Technology) and ARRA American Recovery and Reinvestment Act requirements for healthcare IT.
PRGS: You have plans to deploy your application for mobile, correct?
MW: Yes, we were excited to see that the latest version of OpenEdge included the mobile development platform. The new OpenEdge features will help us maximize our development time and resources, get solutions to market faster, and provide customers with the confidence that their applications will be ready for whatever is next in mobile technology.
We are looking forward to expanding our offering of mobile applications that allows medical centers and physician offices to easily and securely manage patient care while remaining highly scalable and secure. We are basing most of what we do on several principals in cloud around FedRAMP and PCI compliance and are looking forward at new legislation coming down the pipe as it relates to cloud and security.
