PaaS helps companies tackle enterprise app challenges

In order to implement enterprise apps that are tailored to their unique needs, many companies are turning to Platform-as-a-Service offerings. Here's why.

As the world becomes more mobile and interconnected, businesses must do the same to keep up. People expect immediate, dependable access to professional resources, particularly as the cloud makes it all the more possible for employees to connect from remote locations. However, organizations need to have the right tools in place to take advantage of these possibilities, especially within an increasingly complex IT environment characterized by cloud deployments, mobility and a diversity of devices. In order to implement enterprise apps that are tailored to their unique needs, many companies are turning to Platform-as-a-Service offerings. Here's why.

Enterprise apps on the rise

A number of studies point to the rising prevalence of enterprise application development, particularly as companies try to take advantage of mobility opportunities. Tech Pro Research conducted a survey to learn more about enterprise app usage and plans, ZDNet reported. The report indicated that 79 percent of organizations are using or considering implementing these tools, which cover tasks ranging from business intelligence to customer relationship management.

Enterprise applications are growing in popularity because they represent a way for organizations to make their resources more widely available to employees without losing control over them. In other words, people want - and expect - more flexibility in how they can access data and complete their professional tasks, but businesses must still oversee the security and privacy of their important and sometimes sensitive materials. Cloud application management makes it possible for firms to have the best of both worlds - as long as the tools are designed correctly and maintained in the appropriate manner.

Platform complexity and PaaS

That's where PaaS comes in. As far as designing apps, enterprises can benefit from empowering their employees with the right tools to develop their own applications in-house, rather than waiting for a third-party provider to create a program and then attempt to tailor it to their workflows. However, the complexity of cloud platforms can present challenges for IT teams and developers, especially if they don't have a significant amount of coding expertise. This can make app development, as well as infrastructure management, difficult.

For that reason, many enterprises are moving to PaaS solutions, a TechNavio report revealed, according to MSPmentor. The right PaaS offering can make it easier and more efficient for organizations to develop their own applications. Rapid app development is particularly critical in a corporate environment that requires agility and flexibility to keep up with changing market and technology opportunities.
