The proALPHA group, a service provider of business solutions boasting an integral range of business services, has migrated its complex development environment to OpenEdge 11.0, and did it in just days.
Recognized as one of Germany’s Top 100 Innovators, proALPHA is a Progress Elite partner with more than 27 branches and partners around the world, supporting over 1,700 installations. With this kind of pressure, it was imperative that the migration went smoothly and with zero disruption to service.
The industry standard for migrations of this kind averages around six months, but completing the switch in under a week means the company has saved a fortune in time and resources, with no negative impact to customers.
ProALPHA has certified its newest release, proALPHA 5.3 for OpenEdge 11.0 and plans to certify previous deployment releases under maintenance, which will allow customers to take advantage of the performance improvements and latest platform support.
This means the company can benefit from the enhanced development capabilities of OpenEdge 11.0 and now enjoys the ability to incorporate business processes and integration capabilities securely across multiple platforms and devices. This, in turn, helps the company to quickly adapt to support evolving European regulations such as the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA).
New features include better control turntables and interface inheritance for moving forward the architecture of its ERP platform product and Eclipse-based tools to offer intuitive interfaces to the operating system. With a single integrated development platform that is 40 per cent more productive than before, proALPHA’s developers can now work more efficiently whether deploying on-premise or in the Cloud.
When asked about the migration, Martin Wolf, co-founder and VP Development & Technology, proALPHA Software AG, said: “proALPHA first implemented Progress OpenEdge in 1992. We typically take on the BETA version of each new OpenEdge release, and thanks to our close technical relationship with Progress Software we’re able to ask for specific features and functionality that help us develop leading ERP applications. The OpenEdge 11.0 migration was incredibly fast and our developers are already enjoying a significant increase in productivity.”
OpenEdge 11.0 now offers Independent Software Vendor partners a future-proof development platform that includes a patent-pending multi-tenant database. Multi-tenancy is a critical component and key differentiator for customers and partners, in addition to multi-Cloud deployment options, business process-enabled development, and extended platform support for mobile devices.
