Progress Makes DBTA 100 for 6th Straight Year

July 03, 2018 Data & AI

Data is vital to success in the modern business landscape. At Progress, we’re continuously innovating to help you stay on top of your data needs.

As the IT landscape evolves, the need for data is only growing. From real-time streams of Internet of Things data, to an increasing adoption of virtualization and cloud services, to the continuing growth of data-driven machine learning and complex analytics, data is everywhere. The GDPR is yet one more reason that data needs to not only be generated, but captured and controlled effectively.

This is the message behind this year’s DBTA 100. The list is put out by the Database Trends and Applications magazine, a well-respected authority on all things data and data science. The goal is to recognize the organizations that are leading the way with innovation and, as they put it, “helping to point the way forward” through an increasingly complex data environment.

DBTA has released this list six times, and Progress has been on it each time. But as Progress CEO Yogesh Gupta told the audience at ProgressNEXT a few weeks ago, while the questions we all ask ourselves about our technology may be the same, the answers have changed dramatically. DBTA notes that according to a recent survey, 50% of data managers currently have databases exceeding 10TB, and 30% even exceed 50TB—a drastic increase from a few years ago, when only the largest enterprises were dealing with multi-terabyte databases. The same survey claimed that two-thirds of respondents said application availability is an “extremely critical concern.”

The way we manage data is changing. Mainframes are moving to the cloud. The blockchain is emerging as a tool for data management. New cognitive services are using AI and machine learning to automate processes. ISVs are opening their analytics to support the diverse needs of their customers. And of course, more and more businesses are transitioning to the cloud, including with hybrid data arrangements that seamlessly include both on-premise and cloud data.

At Progress, we’re continuously innovating in order to help you stay on top of the latest technology trends you need for accessing, integrating and securing your data. We’re honored to be included once more on the DBTA 100.
