Richard Barretto

Richard Barretto

Senior Vice President, Chief Information Security Officer

With cybersecurity threats evolving by the day, Progress is proud to have Richard Barretto at the helm as Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). Richard leads all aspects of Progress’ information security practice, collaborating with senior leadership to continually drive security as a business value to the organization, its customers and shareholders. Put simply: Richard’s team strives to protect the Progress home front from a churning landscape of digital threats.

An inspirational leader and mentor who cares about his team, Richard believes in aiming high and using aggressive goals as opportunities to learn, grow and achieve. Each day, Richard rises to the challenge—and dare we say excitement—of staying ahead an increasingly sophisticated global security landscape. By ensuring Progress is security-forward in its approaches, including how we infuse security principles and best practices into everything we do, customers can always be confident that we are putting the interests of their businesses first.

Richard’s noteworthy success predates Progress, extending to his experience building world-class teams. This includes Cimpress, a publicly traded, multi-billion-dollar, global organization where he built governance, risk and compliance and security operation center disciplines. Before Cimpress, he served in security and risk management positions at Cobham Mission Systems, Alegeus, BJ's Wholesale Club and Old National Bank. Richard is also a recognized industry thought leader in the areas of risk management, security operations and the security best practices organizations should proactively adopt.

Off-hours, Richard swaps his security-champion cape for a tennis racquet. It’s a lifelong passion he’s held since being a ball boy at  the US Open Tennis Tournament for legends like Agassi, Sampras and Lendl. He brings that same drive and meticulous attention to detail to his work and the causes he cares about. This includes his position on the Board of Directors for X-Cel Education, which makes education more accessible to under-served adults in Greater Boston.

Richard earned his bachelor degree in management from Oakland City University in Indiana, and his CISO Executive Education Certification from Carnegie Mellon University.
