Challenge
Kia Motors Corporation (KIA) is Korea's traditional manufacturer of motor vehicles. As a member of the automotive group Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group its aim is to become one of the leading automotive brands in the world. Kia Motors Corporation has decided to build its first European plant in Slovakia due to the constant increase in sales and increasing market share in Europe.
The network department responsible for comprehensive troubleshooting and network security must constantly respond to performance and operational anomalies. Such incidents can have a direct impact on the business activities of the company as car production is very sensitive to errors related to the malfunctioning of information systems, slower production, and ensuring the organization from loss of information assets. The capacity of the factory, which currently employs around 3,800 people, is 300 thousand vehicles per year at full operation.
The Flowmon solution managed to increase the visibility of individual parts of the infrastructure, speed up the incident management response time through real-time detection of operational problems and improve information security by automating the analysis of data flows.
Our priority was to improve the visibility of our infrastructure, as in our manufacturing segment network outages automatically lead to financial losses. That is why we decided that besides the tools such as Cisco Prime we will invest in a flow data monitoring solution with extensive analytical capabilities. The aim of the project was to increase the safety of our environment and to react faster to unexpected operational incidents. Flowmon delivers us such benefits. It helps us to cover a large part of infrastructure visibility.

Solution
There were two basic requirements of the client - to cover the complete infrastructure by Flowmon monitoring; and the utilization of a high-quality and reprocessing virtual environment for managing and analyzing information from the network. To fulfil the second requirement, Anect, our authorized partner for Slovakia, deployed Flowmon Virtual Collector. The Collector collects, stores and visualizes data from optical and metallic Flowmon probes as well as from other active network devices able to generate NetFlow/IPFIX. For the automatic analysis of flow data with regard to operational and security anomalies, KIA uses Flowmon Anomaly Detection System designed to meet the needs of a huge production plant.
