In order to meet several challenges and opportunities unattainable with a relational database, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) chose MarkLogic to serve as the foundation for multiple new information data hubs. OECD’s O.N.E. (OECD Network Environment) provides information to over 40,000 government officials worldwide, with secure access to a wide array of information to help them prepare for symposia and policy committees. With OECD.Kappa —which integrates 22,000 books, 1,100 periodicals and series, 83,000 chapters, 4,700 multilingual summaries, 80 statistics databases, 2,400 datasets, indicators, metadata, and new content— the OECD has established itself as a leading global publisher in economic and social policy.
Today, we can say that MarkLogic is a key enabler of OECD Publishing’s objective to ingest content once and disseminate it via many channels whether our own or via third parties. Thanks to MarkLogic, we are now able to deliver new digital content and services to our audiences faster and in a more cost-effective manner.

Head of Publishing at OECD
The OECD uses MarkLogic to integrate structured and unstructured data across silos into a single, central data hub. Thanks to improved metadata and data classification, the information is enhanced to allow smart searching. Combined with advanced semantic features, the enriched search engine helps contextualize information for rapid access to knowledge, truly collaborative editing, and advanced analytics. OECD also selected MarkLogic due to its government-grade security, high availability and scalability.
By serving mass amounts of critical information to delegates around the world, the OECD continues to set the bar for social and economic policy information publishing.
O.N.E.’s intuitive interface can be accessed from any device at any time, allowing communication with the OECD secretariat in preparation for committee meetings.
As the OECD continues down its path of digital transformation, the organization increasingly reaps ongoing cost and productivity benefits.
With the ability to quickly and easily ingest information, internal OECD.Kappa users can focus on their expertise: content management — not data entry.
Three new applications are already in production, and OECD has plans to make content available in various other channels like OECD iLibrary, OECD.org, and Google Books.
In a short amount of time, the OECD was able to reduce the costs of existing products, as well as begin important new ones with greater efficiency.
