Overview: Page templates

In Sitefinity CMS, you create layout templates (not website templates) either by using Sitefinity CMS Layout editor or by using master pages.

You manage templates on Templates page.
To open the page, in the main menu, click Design » Page Templates.

NOTE: you can create personalized version of each page. Personalizing a page gives you the opportunity to serve different content to different types of users (user segments). You can build set of rules on which the user segments are based.

  • Apply page templates
    Create a layout that helps the display of content. For example, allocate space for the navigation, the title, and the content blocks. To do this, you use predefined or custom templates, which you can modify if needed.
  • Website templates file structure
    Sitefinity CMS uses specific structure for organizing the templates and the themes for the backend and the frontend.
  • Create a template using the Layout editor
    Use Sitefinity CMS built-in layouts or create new layouts through the Layout editor. Start from scratch or build a layout template based on already prepared one.
  • Create a template using a Master page
    Use ASP.NET Master Pages to add consistent layout in case you need more complex HTML layout or you need logic in code-behind files.
  • Sort and filter page templates in the backend
    Sort and filter page templates alphabetically, by ownership, by date the template was last modified, or by a custom filtering.
  • For developers: Page templates
    Use Sitefinity CMS native and fluent APIs to perform common tasks and CRUD operations related to page templates.
