Thunder: Create a custom content type

With Sitefinity CMS Thunder you can add new content types while developing.

NOTE: You can use this item template only on class library projects that are created with Sitefinity CMS Custom module and Sitefinity CMS Empty custom module project templates.

To add new content type perform the following:
  1. In the context menu of your Custom module project and click Add » New Item…
  2. In the left pane, select Sitefinity CMS and in the central pane, select Sitefinity Custom Content Type.
  3. Enter the name of the new content type and click OK.
  4. Choose whether you want to use OpenAccess or Entity Framework for your data access layer.
    Thunder helps you set all the data providers, decorators and managers.

  5. Select what you want to use to generate the Master-detail backend views of your custom content type.
    You can choose between Kendo UI and pure Web Forms using RadControls. 
    If you are new to Sitefinity CMS development Thunder is doing all the Sitefinity CMS code for you. If you choose None for the views, Thunder generates an empty backend page and you can create your own custom administration.
  6. Click Next and enter the name of your custom content type. 
    The developer name of the content type is auto-generated and you can change it. It is used in the generated code. 
  7. Create the fields that your content type requires, using the Add… button. 
    If you create, for example, a DateTime field, Thunder generates a calendar control that is mapped to this field in the views. 
  8. Click Done.

NOTE: ​When adding a new custom content type to an already installed custom module you need to reinstall the module in order for the changes to take effect. Alternatively you can increase the assembly version of the custom module by modifying the projects AssemblyInfo.cs file. As a result any logic implemented in the modules Upgrade method is executed on the next module initialization.
