You can configure a number of widget settings and define individual properties of widgets through advanced configurations. In addition, you can define the common (shared) behavior of content widgets on a page, such as paging, switching to detail mode, and URL filtering. You can also use a number of filter expressions to filter what content items are displayed in the widgets.
If you created your own user or custom widgets, you have a number of options to register the new widgets and use them in your pages.
