Deprecated capabilities in Sitefinity CMS

Overview

The capabilities that are listed below are no longer supported. This means that starting from the respective Sitefinity CMS version on, no further feature development and no bug fixes will be provided. In terms of related technical support, we will provide best-effort support, which means that the availability of knowledge and skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues is not guaranteed.

RECOMMENDATION: If your project is running on a version where the listed capability is still supported, you may continue to use it, however we recommend switching to an alternative option as soon as possible.

Integration of Twitter with the Publishing system in Sitefinity CMS

Before the upgrade, we recommend that you consider the following:

As of version Sitefinity 15.2, the integration of Twitter (rebranded to X) with the Publishing system in Sitefinity CMS will be discontinued. As a result, you will no longer be able to include Twitter feed as source or target destination in your feeds.
Only pages based on Web Forms or hybrid templates are affected because Twitter Feed is a Web Forms widget.

Sitefinity Project Manager

MySQL and Oracle RDBMS

With the release of Sitefinity 15.0, the support for MySQL and Oracle is discontinued. It is no longer possible to create Sitefinity projects using MySQL and Oracle databases.

Legacy authentication modes (OpenID, SWT, and Forms)

Sitefinity CMS 14.4

Default authentication Internal Identity Provider (IdentityServer3) in Sitefinity is no longer supported. The corresponding code is now removed.
Universal Analytics (UA)
July 1, 2023Google Analytics 4Google has deprecated its Analytics solution – Universal Analytics (UA) on July 1, 2023. Sitefinity CMS Analytics dashboard relies on UA and therefore, it stops working when UA stops working. To make sure that you continue using uninterrupted analytics for your sites, we prepared recommendations how to migrate to Google Analytics 4 in Sitefinity CMS. Sitefinity CMS 14.1

Web Forms capabilities for new projects are not available. The recommended frontend technology options are ASP.NET Core and Next.js.
Support for Web Forms capabilities in the Sitefinity frontend was discontinued in version 14.1. However, those capabilities are still included in later versions, such as 15.x, to facilitate the transition to ASP.NET Core or Next.js.
Progress strongly advises against using Web Forms for production deployments in any version beyond 13.3 LTS, which is the last officially supported version for Web Forms. Customers who choose to deploy Web Forms based websites on versions beyond 13.3, do so at their own risk.
Web Forms capabilities are no longer eligible for support, feature development or bug fixes, including security updates. Any newly introduced or discovered issues, including critical bugs without workarounds, will not be addressed.
Classic content UI

Sitefinity CMS 14.1

New UI (New Content Editing Experience)It is no longer possible to switch between the New and the Classic interface. The New UI is now the only interface available for all Sitefinity CMS users. For more information, see FAQ: Deprecated Capabilities in Sitefinity CMS.

Forms and SWT authentication mechanisms

Amazon CloudSearch

Built-in search services: Lucene, Azure Search, and ElasticsearchAmazon CloudSearch is no longer supported. If you have Amazon CloudSearch setup, the system status dashboard widget will report an error. We suggest configuring one of the three built-in search services instead.
