The Sitefinity rich-text editor simplifies content creation for both developers and more content-focused users. With AI-powered content generation, the editor is more powerful than ever.
Progress Sitefinity is a robust content management system (CMS) designed to simplify website development while enabling sophisticated digital experiences. Previously, we discussed creating and managing pages using Sitefinity’s no-code tools. In this article, we’ll dive deeper into the rich-text editor, a core feature that allows users to create and format engaging content quickly.
For more details on what Progress Sitefinity is and how it works, check out our previous article—What is Progress Sitefinity and How Does It Work?
At the heart of Sitefinity’s content creation lies its rich-text editor, a versatile tool designed to enhance the writing and formatting experience. Whether you’re drafting blog posts, news articles or simply managing page content, the editor provides a user-friendly interface that blends text with multimedia elements.
Progress Kendo UI powers the editor and provides a familiar WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) experience. You can directly format text, embed images and videos, and even manage HTML code, making it a powerful tool for both casual users and advanced developers.
There are several ways to produce content in Sitefinity. One common approach is to leverage preexisting templates and widgets to quickly build and manage content blocks. In this article, we’ll continue where we left off in the previous article by building out the Resources
page we created. This time, we’ll focus on adding actual content to the page using the Content Block
widget.
This will produce an editable content block where we can begin adding and formatting text, images and other media directly within the Sitefinity interface.
Clicking the Create content
call-to-action opens the rich-text editor interface. This editor allows us to format our text with headings, bullet points or paragraph styles. Additionally, we can embed media such as images or videos directly into the content and even switch to HTML mode if we need more granular control over the code.
The text formatting toolbar enables us to easily control how our content looks and flows. Whether we need to adjust headings, emphasize certain sections or organize content into lists, the toolbar offers all these options for formatting our text and paragraphs:
Let’s write out some content using different formatting elements.
[Heading 1] Welcome to the Resources Hub
[Paragraph] This section introduces the available resources on our site.
[Blockquote] “This is an example of a blockquote, used to highlight a key message or quotation.”
[Heading 2] Available Resources
- Guides
- Tutorials
- Whitepapers
[Heading 3] Contact Us
[Paragraph] To get in touch with us, please email us at: example@email.com.
With this content, our page will now appear a bit more organized and professional intending to provide users with more information about the page.
The Insert a link
toolset enables us to place a link in our content to external and internal content. We’ll use this to link the email with example@email.com
.
This makes the email a clickable link.
Adding images is straightforward in Progress Sitefinity. The Insert Image
tool allows us to easily upload images from our media library or directly from our computer.
Similar to adding images, we can also embed media and reference social media, such as Twitter, YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook or any other iframe provider. This can be done by either pasting a YouTube URL or embedding snippets in the content for other types of social media.
By clicking the HTML code
icon in the upper right corner of the formatting toolbar, we can switch to HTML view for full code control.
Here, we can edit HTML directly, with support for validation, syntax highlighting and Intellisense for a more robust editing experience.
The Sitefinity rich-text editor is a powerful and flexible tool that simplifies content creation for both casual users and developers. Its intuitive interface allows us to more seamlessly format text, embed media and manage HTML, so we can easily create engaging and visually appealing content.
Recently, Sitefinity has even introduced AI-powered content generation, making it easier than ever to produce high-quality content quickly (we’ll discuss this feature more in a future article!). Whether you need simple text formatting or advanced customization, the rich-text editor has you covered.
