Administration: Setup your system
Sitefinity CMS provides you with a number of administration settings that help you configure your system.
For example, to boost performance, if you have a load-balancing configuration, you can disable the backend on all frontend nodes, but leave it enabled on nodes used for development. You can also configure the way your content and pages is cached which affects the overall performance of your system. You can create caching profiles and configure the L2 cache settings per persistent type - both in Network Load Balanced (NLB) environment as well as single instance environment.
Regarding security, you can configure all credentials and security-related settings like authentication, passwords, LDAP, SSL, secure cookies for claims and forms authentication, and so on.
To make emails work in Sitefinity CMS, on the other hand, you configure the SMTP settings required for every time the system sends emails. For example, to notify an approver that an item is waiting for approval. You can configure different SMTP notification profiles to send emails from the system.
To manage consistency of how the URLs for your content is formed, you create rules for URLs, enable and disable the canonical URL service, and change the default URL format for content items.
Other settings you need to configure to setup your system are the display of custom error pages, application restart during uploads, and so on.
