Old Navigation widget

Display the old Navigation widget

In Sitefinity CMS 6.1 a new Navigation widget is introduced. It is highly customizable and provides extended capabilities for modifying its design. The old Navigation widget will be continued to be supported.

To use the old Navigation widget, perform the following:

  1. In the main menu, click Administration » Settings » Advanced.
  2. In the navigation tree on the left, click Toolboxes » Toolboxes » PageControls » Sections » NavigationControlsSection » Tools.
  3. Click Create New button.
  4. In Control CLR Type or Virtual Path, enter Telerik.Sitefinity.Web.UI.NavigationControls.NavigationControl, Telerik.Sitefinity
  5. Enter a Name and a Title.
    For example OldNavigation and Old Navigation
  6. In CssClass, enter sfNavigationIcn
  7. Click Save Changes button.
    The widget is added to the Navigation widget group and you can use it on your pages.

Use the old Navigation widget

 Use this widget to display website navigation. The widget displays only visible pages.

After you have dragged the Navigation widget on your page you must configure it to display navigation links. 

  1. To do this, click Edit button in the upper-right corner of the widget.
    The Navigation window appears.
  2. In What type of navigation to use? area, choose the type of navigation by selecting one of the predefined types listed below this procedure or select Custom Navigation.
  3. When you are finished, click Save.
    The Navigation window closes and the Navigation widget is configured to display the navigation links you have selected.

This section contains:
  • Horizontal navigation
    The system displays links to the pages horizontally (one next to the other). There is no hierarchy (no links to children pages).
  • Horizontal navigation with dropdown menus
    The system displays links to the pages horizontally. If you select a parent page or a group page, the system displays all children pages in a dropdown menu.
  • Horizontal navigation with tabs
    The system displays links to the pages horizontally. If you select a parent page or a group page, the system displays all children pages in a tabstrip.
  • Vertical navigation
    The system displays links to the pages vertically. There is no hierarchy.
  • Tree navigation
    The system displays links to the pages in a vertical tree with all its nodes expanded. The Tree navigation type enables you to view the hierarchy of the website.
  • Sitemap navigation divided in column
    The system displays links to top level pages horizontally. If a top level page is a parent page or a group page, containing other pages, they are displayed in a column below their parent page. Only the first two levels of hierarchy are displayed.
  • Sitemap navigation divided in rows
    The system displays links to top level pages vertically. If a top level page is a parent page or a group page, containing other pages, they are displayed in a row below their parent page. Only the first two levels of hierarchy are displayed.
