Overview: Personalization

Personalization allows different content to be served to different types of users (user segments). You can build set of rules on which the user segments are based. You can then create different versions of the pages of your website. 

You must first create the user segments and then personalize your pages. User segments are defined by particular characteristics, such as location or IP address. You can then use the preview tool to view the website from different user perspectives.

NOTE: To determine the location and the IP of a visitor, Sitefinity CMS uses GeoLite databases. If you want to use a DB version that is newer than the one distributed with Sitefinity CMS, you can upgrade your GeoLite database on Maxmind website.

  • Create user segments
    User segments are different groups of users that are served different content (different versions of a page). You create user segments based on certain rules that apply to the users.
  • Edit and delete user segments
    You can edit the properties of user segments or delete a segment altogether.
  • Create a personalized version of a page
    Personalizing a page means that you create one or more different versions of a page. These versions are associated with the user segments you have created.
  • Use the personalization preview tool
    You use this tool to preview how your entire site looks like from the perspective of a particular user segment, of one or more particular characteristics, or from different predefined mobile devices.

    You can perform all common tasks and CRUD operations, related to personalization of pages, using the Sitefinity API.
  • Tutorial: Create custom personalization criteria
    This tutorial demonstrates how to create custom personalization criteria in cases where the built-in personalization criteria are not sufficient to match your specific needs when creating user segments.
