User characteristics

NOTE: Sitefinity Digital Experience Cloud (DEC) was renamed to Sitefinity Insight as a part of the Sitefinity 13.0 release. However, Sitefinity CMS and its documentation prior to version 13.0 continue using the former name - Digital Experience Cloud.

The following table lists all available characteristics that you can choose to describe a user or user segment, together with their meaning and what you have to enter after choosing a characteristic:
Characteristic  Meaning  Input 
IP address  The IP address of the user.  A paragraph box opens, where you must enter all IP addresses of users that will be included in the user segment, each one on a new line. 
Landing URL  The page which the user have entered your website from.  In the input field, enter the URL of the page. 
Location  Where the user is physically located  In Add location field, type the location and click Add button. 
You can type, for example, a country name or a city name. 
Profile fields 

The fields of a user profile. 
Can be applied only to registered users. 

For more information about profile fields, see Administration: User profiles.

 The Field dropdown box contains all fields available in the user profile. 
  1. Select a field.
  2. In the next dropdown box, select a logical operation.
  3. Enter a value for the user profile field and click Add.

You can add more than one condition for the profile fields.

 
Referral URL  The URL of the page, which contains a link to your site and from where the user has come to your site.
 In the input field, enter the URL of the page. 
Roles 

The Sitefinity CMS role that the user is assigned to.
For example, Designers or Customers. 

For more information, see Overview: Roles.

 Select the roles, which you want to apply the personalization rule to.
All uses belonging to the selected roles will be served personalized content. 
Time of day  The time interval when the user have used your site.  Use the From and To dropdown boxes to define the time interval. 
Purchases  The purchases that the user has made from your website  You can choose to narrow the purchased products by the following:
  • Departments
    Select the checkboxes of the desired departments.
  • Price range
    Use the From and To input fields to define the price range of the purchased products.
  • Tag
    Type the tag of the purchased product or click Select from existing and click Add button.
  • Type of product
    Select the checkboxes of the desired product types.
  • Particular product
    Select the checkboxes of the desired products.

Only users that have purchased products with the specified characteristics will be included in the user segment.

Visit duration  The duration of the user session 

Use the From and To input fields to define the duration of the user visit in the selected unit of measurement.

Use the Period of visitation dropdown box to select the time interval for the user session statistics.

For example, you can select only users that during the last week have had user sessions between 1 and 2 minutes.
Visited page  A page that was visited by the user 

Only users who have visited a certain page are included in the user segment.

Choose one of the following:

  • Select page…
     Select a page from the sitemap.
  • Enter URL…
     Enter the URL of a page from your site.
 

Marketo based personalization

PREREQUISITES: The following fields are available only with Sitefinity CMS license for Marketo. For more information, contact sitefinitysales@progress.com.

Marketo lead score  A number, representing the Marketo lead score of a user.  In the field, enter a number representing Marketo lead score.
For example, 100. 
Marketo field  A field from a user profile in Marketo.  In Lead field, enter the name of the Marketo field from the Marketo user profile. Then, enter the value of the field. 
For example, Company is equal to Telerik 

Progress Sitefinity Digital Experience Cloud based personalization

PREREQUISITES: The following field is available only with Sitefinity CMS Online Marketing Edition and Sitefinity CMS Enterprise Edition licenses. For more information about licenses or about getting a trial, contact sitefinitysales@progress.com.

Persona (from Digital Experience Cloud)  Any persona created in Progress Sitefinity Digital Experience Cloud. From the dropdown menu, select the persona on whom to base your segment. 
Campaign (from Digital Experience Cloud) Any campaign defined in Progress Sitefinity Digital Experience Cloud From the dropdown menu, select the campaign on which to base your segment.
