When considering Sitefinity upgrades, there are three aspects to evaluate:
Each of these aspects is important for maintaining an effective Sitefinity environment and it is recommended that customers proceed at a pace suitable to their specific needs and business conditions. There are various paths and options depending on the customer’s stage in their journey. Evaluating and creating an action plan for the upgrade based on business requirements is essential, with support available as needed. While reviewing this guide, please contact your Sitefinity account manager or implementation partner for assistance.
Version upgrades involve moving from older versions to either the latest long-term support (LTS) version (currently Sitefinity 14.4) or the highest available version (currently Sitefinity 15.2).
This keeps your Sitefinity platform secure, enables you to benefit from enhanced performance, provides continued support with bug fixes and backport request handling and unlocks access to new capabilities such as integrations, connectivity tools, enhanced customization and Gen AI.
Technology transitions encompass the modernization of your front-end and widget rewrites from technologies such as ASP.NET Web Forms and MVC to modern frameworks like ASP.NET Core and Next.js. These frameworks provide superior performance, cross-platform capabilities and headless CMS features, making them crucial for future-proofing your digital projects.
Cloud migration involves transitioning from self-hosted environments to fully managed cloud services provided by Progress. This transition offers improved scalability, enhanced security with SIEM and DDoS protection and reduced infrastructure management overhead. It also includes proactive maintenance, automated upgrades for continuous improvement, CI/CD capabilities for faster deployments and enhanced connectivity through the Sitefinity Integration Hub, enabling integration across critical systems.
The modernization of front-end technology is often considered the most time-intensive part of the upgrade process. Sitefinity supports a gradual approach to transitioning to technologies such as ASP.NET Core from ASP.NET Web Forms or MVC, preventing operational disruptions and enabling an efficient transition.
